About the Role

Principal Software Architect
Required Skills & Qualifications

We are seeking an accomplished Principal Software Architect with 12+ years of software engineering experience, including 4+ years in a Principal Engineer, Software Architect, or equivalent technical leadership role. The ideal candidate has a proven track record of architecting and modernizing enterprise software platforms within Life Sciences, Medical Devices, Healthcare, or Industrial IoT environments.

The successful candidate combines deep hands-on technical expertise with strategic architectural leadership and has experience delivering secure, scalable, and highly available software systems across cloud, desktop, and embedded environments.

Technical Expertise
Extensive experience designing enterprise-scale, multi-tier applications using C++, C#, .NET Framework, ASP.NET MVC, Web API, WCF, Windows Services, and Win32 technologies.
Strong proficiency in Node.js (Express) and modern frontend development using React (v18/19) and Single Page Application (SPA) architectures.
Experience modernizing legacy platforms while maintaining operational continuity and supporting hybrid technology environments.
Expertise in Azure Active Directory (Azure AD), MSAL, OAuth2/OpenID Connect, JWT authentication, and enterprise identity and access management.
Deep understanding of SQL Server architecture, including multi-database design, performance tuning, stored procedures, indexing strategies, and data governance.
Experience with PowerShell automation, IIS administration, deployment orchestration, and infrastructure management.
Strong background in cloud architecture and migration strategies across Azure and AWS.
Expertise in designing secure software platforms, including TLS 1.2+, certificate lifecycle management, Azure Key Vault, encryption, secure code signing, and secrets management.
Experience designing custom communication protocols, network services, binary/text messaging layers, and distributed systems.
Demonstrated success implementing enterprise CI/CD pipelines supporting complex, multi-solution application ecosystems.
Key Responsibilities
Define and drive the technical architecture and long-term technology strategy for the Instrument Intelligence Platform, including remote monitoring solutions, cloud-native SaaS applications, and clinical quality benchmarking systems.
Serve as the organization's technical authority by establishing engineering standards, conducting architecture and code reviews, and mentoring senior engineering teams across C++, C#, Node.js, and React technologies.
Lead modernization initiatives that transform legacy .NET Framework, Windows Services, and AngularJS applications into scalable, cloud-native React-based solutions.
Design secure, scalable REST APIs and integration frameworks supporting instrument connectivity, enterprise systems, and cloud services.
Establish enterprise DevOps practices by designing and implementing CI/CD pipelines that support hybrid technology stacks across .NET Framework, Node.js, and React applications.
Define and govern cross-platform architecture standards to ensure scalability, interoperability, maintainability, and long-term technology alignment.
Produce and maintain Architecture Decision Records (ADRs), High-Level Designs (HLDs), Low-Level Designs (LLDs), interface specifications, and architectural governance documentation.
Champion security-by-design principles by enforcing authentication standards, encryption, certificate management, secrets rotation, secure code signing, and regulatory compliance requirements.
Lead Azure-to-AWS migration initiatives while defining the roadmap for cloud-native services, fleet management APIs, and imaging platform integrations.
Maintain compatibility across legacy and modern application environments, including x86/.NET 2.0 and x64/.NET Framework 4.8 deployments, while driving long-term modernization.
Ideal Candidate

The ideal candidate is a strategic technology leader who remains deeply hands-on with architecture and engineering execution.

They will:

Provide technical leadership from architectural vision through implementation, balancing long-term strategy with day-to-day engineering guidance.
Drive modernization of legacy Windows-based systems into secure, scalable, cloud-native platforms while minimizing operational risk.
Influence engineering direction through architectural governance, coding standards, and technology best practices.
Effectively communicate complex technical concepts to executive leadership, product management, regulatory stakeholders, and cross-functional engineering teams.
Foster a culture of engineering excellence through mentorship, collaboration, continuous improvement, and high-quality software delivery.
Build scalable, secure, and maintainable platforms that support long-term business growth, regulatory compliance, and evolving customer needs.
Preferred Experience
Medical Device, Life Sciences, Diagnostics, Healthcare, or Industrial IoT software development.
SaaS platform architecture and cloud-native application design.
Enterprise security and regulatory compliance.
Large-scale software modernization and cloud migration initiatives.
Distributed systems, device connectivity, and remote monitoring platforms.
Agile software development and DevOps transformation.
